Q – What is the most important thing for an expert and former athlete/coach to know before doing a media interview?
A - (Tom Gullikson, former Davis Cup captain, professional tennis player and current President of the Tim & Tom Gullikson Foundation - gulliksonfoundation.org) "The very first thing I would say to a new interviewee is to think before you talk. What you say may very well end up in print so just don't blurt out the first thing you are thinking in response to the question."
Q - What is the most important thing that you've learned about the process of developing a media relations and exposure campaign that you didn't know when you started?
A - (Jackie Valent, author) "The most significant thing that I've learned about publicity is that you must be patient and understand that there are many opportunities for exposure. For example, you may be asked to be interviewed for an article on something completely unrelated to your business, but building relationships with the media takes time, and doing these things may help open the door for future opportunities (and help get you a quick mention in the unrelated article)."
Q - As an author, what is the single most valuable piece of advice you would give a fellow writer when working to publicize your book?
A - (Jackie Valent, author) "My advice would be to focus on your message and determine what it is you want to achieve. Put together a strategy of what you want to achieve and a time frame, then focus all publicity activities to feed that strategy."
